Do exercise 3 on page 181.
Select a Web site that uses a large amount of graphic content on its home page or a site that has a complex interface layout. Examine the home page for a few minutes to become familiar with its layout and view the page's source markup code. Then, visit the http://wave.webaim.org/ site and test the site's home page using one of the sets of accessibility guidelines (either Section 508 or W3C Accessibility Guidelines). Carefully review the exception report to determine if there are valid accessibility issues with the site.
Do exercise 4 on page 181.
Using
a familiar small Web site of fewer than 20 pages, test the site using one of the sets of accessibility guidelines and identify any exceptoins on the home page only. Record any exceptions on a sheet of paper and identify them as graphic, layout, navigation/forms, or other issues. Then, perform an automated accessibility check using the http://wave.webaim.org/ site and one of the sets of accessibility guidelines (either Section 508 or W3C Accessibility Guidelines). Compare the results of your manual test to the automated test.
Note: You should download the free Web Aim Toolbar for Firefox so you can perform these accessibility tasks from the Toolbar. This is the address for the Firefox Add-in Toolbar: http://wave.webaim.org/toolbar. You may also Google a search for perhaps, a better accessibility checker?
